FAQ

Product specs and features
Yes. To prevent accidental presses, you can set specific keys to “Unassigned.”
It saves your key assignments on the device itself. Even where you can’t install dedicated drivers (a work PC, for example), just plug in a configured device and it works as is.
Key codes can be recognized differently depending on your keyboard layout setting (qwerty / qwerty-jis). In some cases, changing the layout setting to qwerty-jis makes the key respond correctly.
Not at the moment. The device’s internal memory is small and can’t store long strings. A separate macro feature (for input sequences and the like) is available, so consider it depending on what you need. The device alone can’t store text snippets, but you can get the same result by pairing it with a free clipboard manager such as Clibor: register the snippet to a hotkey in the clipboard manager, call that hotkey from your MH-Device, then paste (Ctrl+V).
The current Setting Tool is designed for Full HD, so it can look small at higher resolutions. We are looking into improving this.
We use a hot-swap design to shorten manufacturing time. However, as stated in the user manual, any modification is at your own risk. Changing key switches via hot-swap counts as a modification, so please note that problems caused by modifications may fall outside the scope of repair.
As a rule, we can’t take individual hardware modification requests. In the past, we have rebuilt devices with special layouts when the customer covered the development and production costs. It is hard to settle on a single shape that fits everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
A USB Type-C to Type-A cable is included.
For now, the Setting Tool runs on Windows only. For Mac, we offer a beta version with the same UI as on Windows. Once configured on a PC, the device’s keyboard input can also be used on mobile devices (iPad, Android devices, etc.), though this is not officially supported. (Some models need to be switched to iOS mode in the device options for use with iOS; see the user manual.)
One macro runs at a time. If you press another macro key while a macro is running, the first macro stops and the new one starts. Running macros in parallel is not supported.
Current products have no backlight. Adding LEDs powered internally is technically possible, but it would mean designing and prototyping a custom board and a higher price, so we have no plans to make it a standard feature.
If a firmware update doesn’t complete, tick “Deep Seek Mode” (a mode that tries talking to every USB device to identify yours) at the bottom left of the Setting Tool, then restart and reconnect. In normal mode, the tool identifies the device from USB manufacturer information, serial number and so on, but on rare occasions a Windows issue prevents that information from being read. Deep Seek Mode tries to detect the device by communicating with all USB devices (detection takes a little longer). If that doesn’t help, please contact us.
Analog sticks broadly use one of three sensing methods: potentiometer, Hall-effect and TMR.
  • Potentiometer: the most common, long-established contact type. Inexpensive, but prone to drift from wear (input registering when you aren’t touching the stick).
  • Hall-effect: detects position without contact, using a magnet and a sensor. Less prone to wear-related drift, with a good balance of cost and reliability, which is why we currently recommend it.
  • TMR: the newest of the contactless magnetic sensor methods. Highly sensitive and durable, but more expensive.
Few people notice a clear difference in input response in normal use, so for now we recommend Hall-effect. If drift becomes a concern after long use, consider switching to a TMR stick. The standard MH-Delta (no extra charge) uses a potentiometer stick, and the standard MH-Zeta uses a Hall-effect stick. Hall-effect and TMR sticks can be chosen as paid options at purchase (and are also available as upgrades during repair or replacement).
The Setting Tool has no explicit dead zone (cracking point) setting. Please use the game’s dead zone setting or the Sensitivity setting in the Setting Tool.
When ON, the analog stick’s input direction rotates by 90 degrees. Use it when you want to change the direction for a particular game or layout.
Choose according to how the game works:
  • Game mode: move with WASD (keyboard input) and look with the mouse. Works with a wide range of games that accept keyboard input.
  • Pad mode: move with DirectInput (the stick is treated as gamepad input) and look with the mouse. Allows 360-degree analog movement.
Note that some games block using pad input and keyboard/mouse input together (please check with the game’s publisher).
While you hold the Wheel2 button, the Up2 and Down2 functions are enabled.
Yes. By combining macro settings, you can assign a simultaneous press of several modifier keys such as Ctrl, Shift and Alt to a single key.
Please use the integrated Setting Tool (new). The old tools will be retired soon. Running an old tool and the new tool at the same time can stop the device from being detected, so if you are using an old tool, please switch to the new one. You can download it from the Download page on our website.
Optional parts and customization
We have confirmed that Cherry MX-compatible key switches and keycaps can be swapped in, but please check with the manufacturer whether a particular third-party switch is Cherry MX-compatible. The low-profile thumb switches on MH-Zeta and MH-Epsilon are made by Kailh, but we can’t guarantee that every Kailh switch will fit. There are several low-profile switch standards, and they are often incompatible. We also offer dedicated thumb key switches for our products as an option. Replacement is structurally possible, but any modification is at your own risk (there have been cases where the board was damaged during modification and needed repair, so please take care).
MH-Delta and MH-Zeta keycaps are compatible: you can swap them between the two or use commercially available keycaps. Likewise, switches that work in MH-Delta also work in MH-Zeta. Any modification is at your own risk.
The optional stick is shorter than the standard one, so its mounting part is made shorter and tighter than standard. Because of unit-to-unit variation in production, it occasionally won’t go all the way in. If that happens, please contact us and we will replace it. When fitting it, push it in firmly and straight, perpendicular to the stick shaft; that makes it easier.
As noted in the product description, it has a stroke-limiting feature, so it is designed to touch the housing.
The low-height stick with the large top intentionally limits the stroke (how far it can tilt), which can make input values smaller or certain directions harder to input. Adjusting your in-game settings or the Sensitivity setting in the Setting Tool may help, so please try that. An octagonal type without the stroke limit is also included, so you may want to try that one as well.
We don’t sell MH-Zeta sticks on their own, but we can replace stick parts as part of our repair service (parts, labor and shipping are charged). Many customers also seem to use commercially available stick extenders (for PS4, etc.). We can’t guarantee they will fit, so please treat this as reference information only. We also offer customization that combines a different key switch type with a different stick height; contact us if you are interested (parts and shipping are charged).
We sold these parts in the past and are currently considering selling them again. These parts (keycap extension posts) can be used on both left-hand and right-hand devices.
We accept repairs at cost whether or not the device has been modified. The “no modifications” note in the user manual is a caution to avoid disputes in which the manufacturer is held responsible; it isn’t meant to stop you from making your own tweaks. Feel free to enjoy them at your own risk.
This requires work from the design stage up and costs a considerable amount. If you are interested, please contact us first.
We have a help page on our website about stick problems. Depending on the situation, we handle it with either a free replacement or a paid repair (parts + shipping). For long-term use, we also recommend switching to a TMR stick. When you contact us, the following information (as much as you can provide) helps things go smoothly:
  • Your order number
  • Whether the symptom was there from the start or appeared later (when it started and what triggered it)
  • Whether things change after calibrating the stick’s neutral position
  • The stick mode you are using (keyboard mode / pad mode, etc.)
  • Whether the characters you set are output correctly in Game mode
If your character can’t move in just one direction in a game, or movement feels like it sticks, the cause may be a game-specific input threshold rather than a mechanical fault. Adjusting the game’s stick dead band setting or the Sensitivity setting in the Setting Tool may help, so please try that first. As self-care when the stick behaves oddly, spraying silicone spray or contact cleaner at the base of the stick (the moving part) can be effective. Some customers use silicone spray from 100-yen shops (such as Daiso). See also the stick troubleshooting page on our website (mh-device.com/stk_failure/, Japanese).
We check the condition of the key (board / key switch) and replace or repair it free of charge or at cost. When contacting us, please describe the symptom in as much detail as you can (only certain keys, whether it always happens, etc.).
If the problem is judged to be on our side, such as an initial defect, please send it to us cash on delivery (we pay the shipping). For repairs due to wear over time, please send it with shipping prepaid. First, let us know what the problem is. Repairs are normally completed within 2 business days of receipt, after which we ship the device back.
This is a known issue and a fix has been released. Please update to the latest firmware.
Free repair for initial defects is normally available for one month. Even after that, we may replace the device free of charge depending on the situation, so please contact us first.
The cause may be your antivirus software’s real-time protection detecting and deleting part of the executable during extraction. Before extracting the zip file, temporarily turn off real-time protection, then extract and run the tool (we recommend turning protection back on afterwards). If that doesn’t help, please contact us. Security software may also block extracting the ZIP file itself, so please review your security software settings.
The optional stick is a part for MH-Delta only. It does not fit MH-Zeta, MH-Epsilon or other models.
The MH-Zeta analog stick is designed with a smaller tilt range (stroke) than MH-Delta’s. We made this change for Zeta after MH-Delta users told us the tilt was so large it was tiring. Because the tilt is smaller, we recommend setting sensitivity toward High.
Orders, shipping and stock
If the item is in stock, orders usually ship in about 2 days. As a guide:
  • Orders from Friday 9:00 to Monday 9:00 → ship Monday
  • Orders from Monday 9:00 to Wednesday 9:00 → ship Wednesday
  • Orders from Wednesday 9:00 to Friday 9:00 → ship Friday
Because orders are built to order, production can take 1–2 days, and delivery after shipping about 2–3 days (this varies by region and how busy carriers are).
We are sorry, but orders that include an out-of-stock option are cancelled. Please order again once it is back in stock.
Stock isn’t reserved when you add an item to your cart or move to the checkout screen. Orders go through in the order payment is completed, as long as stock remains, so if checkout takes a while, another customer’s order may use up the stock while you are still entering your details. If you have your eye on a popular item, we recommend completing checkout as quickly as you can.
Popular models can keep selling out soon after restocking. We don’t take pre-orders or hold items; sales are first come, first served. Please check the product pages regularly.
If the payment service (BASE) detects possible fraudulent use, shipping may be put on hold temporarily for investigation. The investigation normally takes about 2 weeks, after which we ship your order. If you are in a hurry, you can place a new order with a different payment method (bank transfer, convenience store payment, etc.) and cancel the original order once the investigation is complete.
If you bought through Amazon, you can return it through Amazon’s return process.
Every order includes an A4 delivery note.
We don’t currently sell wholesale to physical stores. Please buy from BASE (our own shop) or Amazon.
MH-Zeta (standard, black) is sold in the US on Amazon.com. Our other models and shipping from our own shops (BASE, etc.) are available in Japan only, because each country requires its own certification for electronic devices. Repairs are handled for customers in Japan only.
Product lineup and where to buy
Customizable products (different key switch types, stick options, etc.) are sold only through BASE (our own shop). Amazon carries standard models only. This policy applies across our models. We announce restocks and the reopening of sales on BASE on the product pages and on X, so please check from time to time.
The button layout, key angles and other details differ from the standard model. See the product page description and photos for details. They are sold in small, limited quantities each month and often sell out shortly after restocking, so please check the sales page regularly.
They were developed as gaming devices, but people use them for many purposes and have told us they like them: for example, left-handed artists using one for illustration with their right hand, and people with a disability affecting one hand or one side of the body using one for everyday PC work.
The body is mainly a combination of black parts (ABS resin, sometimes with an oil-paint finish) and white parts (unfinished ABS). The part of the stick your thumb touches is ABS resin with a rubber coating, the same kind of material as typical game console controllers. If you are concerned about materials because of allergies, you can choose white parts (unfinished ABS, no paint), or we can make the parts in another material such as PLA (extra charge), so please contact us beforehand. Please note that if you are allergic to a specific chemical, we cannot guarantee 100% safety.
MH-Beta’s foot switches are the kind used in arcade cabinets and make a clicking sound when pressed. They aren’t a switch with a cap on top but a single integrated unit, so switch replacement is not currently supported. We are considering a replaceable design in the future, but the timing is undecided.
Settings profiles can’t be carried over or migrated. MH-Delta and MH-Zeta have different button layouts and key counts, so their settings aren’t compatible in the Setting Tool. You will need to create new settings for MH-Zeta.
Usage and compatibility
As “keyboards,” you can connect both at the same time. As “pads (DirectInput),” it depends on whether your application accepts input from two pads. Many applications recognize only one pad, so if both are set to Pad, only one of the sticks may work. Also be aware that some recent applications prohibit mixing keyboard/mouse and pad input; depending on the game, using pad input together with keyboard and mouse input may be blocked. Some customers work around this with a switched USB hub, cutting power to the keyboard only while playing (whether this works depends on the game).
Yes. Some customers actually use them that way. Note that each device needs to be connected to the PC separately.
In Pad mode, the device is recognized as a DirectInput stick (the device itself does not support X-Input). It can emulate either the left or the right stick, but how well it works depends on whether your application accepts DirectInput pad input. If you want it recognized as an X-Input gamepad, run our conversion software, the “X-Input Conversion Tool (DtoX)” (currently a test version).
The device itself is recognized as DirectInput and does not support X-Input out of the box. To use it with applications or games that require X-Input, please use our free conversion software, the “X-Input Conversion Tool (DtoX).” Connect the device while the tool is running and it will be recognized as an X-Input gamepad (currently a test version). The download and a how-to video are on the Download page of our website.
You may be able to avoid this by setting Windows so that this device can’t wake the PC (Device Manager → properties of the USB device → Power Management tab). It isn’t guaranteed, but putting the device itself into sleep mode also seems to help in some cases.
We can’t accurately determine support or latency for individual titles, so please check with each title’s developer. Our in-house test play mainly checks operation with WASD (keyboard mode), but performance varies with the type of application and your environment, so we do not guarantee latency or other performance. Also, some recent titles detect mixed keyboard/mouse and pad input and stop responding or add delay, so we recommend checking the title’s support before you buy.
In Game mode, movement uses 8-direction input: W, A, S, D, W+A, W+D, S+A and S+D. In Pad mode, DirectInput supports 360-degree analog input.
You need to install a driver called “ViGEmBus.” Installation steps are on the DtoX download page and in the how-to video. If you launch DtoX without installing ViGEmBus, X-Input conversion won’t work.
The cause may be a mismatch between the game’s input threshold (dead zone) and the stick’s output values. Turn the Sensitivity setting in the Setting Tool toward High, or check the game’s stick dead zone setting. Some games also don’t support DirectInput pad input (please check with the game’s publisher).
Troubleshooting
Dust inside the USB connector may be the cause. Try cleaning the connectors on the device and the USB cable with an air duster. Connecting directly to a USB port on the PC instead of through a hub, or trying a different USB cable, can also help. If the problem continues, please contact us.
This may be a USB recognition issue in Windows. First, turn on “Deep Seek Mode” at the bottom left of the Setting Tool and reconnect. Even where normal mode can’t detect the device, Deep Seek Mode often succeeds by checking all USB devices. If that still doesn’t help, reinstalling the OS has been confirmed to fix it, but since that is a big job, we recommend trying Deep Seek Mode first.
